description:
The website for Quality Pictures Contemporary Art (QPCA) promotes the artwork available in their gallery as well as the work from artists that they represent.
client:
QPCA is an art gallery in Portland, OR that is owned and operated by a certified public accountant.
problem:
In 2005, the owner was opening an art gallery and needed a simple way to promote the works available in the gallery as well as sample works from artists that are represented by QPCA. A CPA owning an art gallery is unusual and presented a significant design challenge to play off that intriguing combination.
solution:
The owner was familiar with Microsoft Access from his work as an accountant and planned to use that to track the gallery inventory, sales, artists, etc. Clearbuilt designed and implemented an import tool for the Microsoft Access database. When the owner needs to update the website content, he simply uploads the Microsoft Access database file via a password protected web form. The site performs a check on the database file, then completely regenerates the site based on the data found in the database. This allows the owner to maintain all of the company and website information in one locally maintained database.
features:
- exhibition pictures rotate out automatically to match the gallery show schedule
- the website is completely controlled from a Microsoft Access database maintained by the owner
- the site has an integrated blog that is very popular
